About DeepTeal

Broad in scope, narrow in method.

The Company

DeepTeal is an independent company based in Athens. Independence mostly buys two things: a say in what the company takes on, and the time to do it properly.

The work runs wide. Commissioned projects sit alongside software, digital products and ideas the company develops on its own account. What connects them is a habit rather than a sector: find out what is actually needed, use what is already there, build the useful thing, and leave it sturdy enough to still be worth having later. That holds whether or not what is being built is digital.

Background

The work is grounded in statistics before it is grounded in any particular tool. That order matters: most of what goes wrong with data is not a tooling problem, and it is far easier to see coming from the statistics end.

The industries have varied widely — telecommunications, online gaming, mobile commerce, pharmaceuticals, clinical research. The problems they run into have not.

Data that disagrees with itself

The same customer, held in several systems that were never reconciled.

Forecasts nobody validated

Confident numbers, and no record of whether the last ones turned out right.

Two teams, one number

Both figures correct, against two definitions nobody had compared.

Models fitted once

Accurate on the day they shipped, and never checked again since.

Answers nobody needed

Careful analysis, pointed at a question no decision depended on.

Most of the work is fixing them: data marts, churn and lifetime-value models, forecasting rebuilt to survive new data, measurement put in the hands of the teams running the campaigns, reporting migrations that keep the history their numbers depend on. It is described under What We Do.

Where AI Fits

The easy thing to do with AI is to make more of it. DeepTeal’s part is the opposite: find the one place where a model or a tool earns its keep, apply it there sparingly, and leave it out everywhere else. Telling a result worth keeping from confident-looking noise takes the statistics, the engineering and the delivery together, not one clever step.

That judgement shapes the approach more than any particular tool does: caution about models nobody has validated, a preference for designs that stay understandable as they grow, and little patience for complexity that has not earned its place.

A model will produce as much confident-looking noise as it is asked to. Finding the one result worth keeping, and having the judgement to leave the rest out, is where the value is, and it is harder than producing more.

Working Together

DeepTeal takes on a small number of projects at a time, scoped so they can be delivered properly instead of stretched thin.

Work is usually staged, so you can see where it is going before committing to more of it. If you are considering a project, get in touch.
